Urban Aquaculture Recommended in Sarangani Bay

During the forum, Casas recommended to the fisherfolk residents to practice "urban aquaculture" fish farming as an alternative livelihood, and since their new relocation area is atop a hill overlooking the Sarangani Bay.

Casas also vowed to extend help to fisherfolks who are now relocated in 2001 to give way for a beach resort development in Barangay Gumasa.

The beaches of Gumasa are famous today for the pure white sand and crystal clear waters. It is widely known and now draws countless local and foreign tourists yearly as it contributes to the local economy of the municipality.

BFAR 12 recommends tilapia and hito grown in backyard fishponds, tanks or in plastic drums and fed with foodscraps, as it also encourage fisherfolks to give the seas a respite from overfishing.
