New UK Training Programmes for Bivalve Purification

This course develops knowledge of bivalve biology, equipment design and operation and other key issues. The course is designed to cover the technical aspects of operating a purification centre and is suitable for all staff members from operatives to managers, reports the Regional Aquaculture Information System (RAIS).

This is the first time this kind of training has been brought together into a formally recognised course accredited by a major UK food safety awarding body.

Joining the Operations Course are three other bivalve purification training programmes, including one just for EHOs and other inspection staff:-

Bivalve purification inspections is a 4+ hour training course designed by Seafish and intended to brief EHOs on key aspects of the bivalve purification process so that inspections are comprehensive, consistent and appropriate.

Bivalve purification HACCP is a half day training course that introduces the concept and process of HACCP in the seafood industry. Based upon the successful Seafish/REHIS joint award, HACCP in the seafood industry, this variation addresses the specific issues found in Bivalve Purification Operations.

Bivalve purification management is a two day practical training programme that looks in detail at the issues raised during a standard 42 hour purification cycle.

All four programmes can be mixed and matched to provide a bespoke programme and are available through either of the two new shellfish training centres, using a combination of Seafish and centre trainers.

The two new training centres are based in Scotland and SW England and can provide training courses throughout the UK and Eire.
