Right-sizing AFMA: Australian Agency Plan

Marketing Politics +2 more

AUSTRALIA - A united sense of purpose and agency-wide vision were important outcomes from the Australian Fisheries Management Authority planning workshop held in Binalong on 15-17 June 2009.

AFMA staff, CEO and Commission Chair Michael Egan participated in the workshop, together with DAFF Deputy Secretary Stephen Hunter, CEO of the Commonwealth Fisheries Association Chris Melham, and fisher and former AFMA Director, Stuart Richey.

The theme of the workshop was ‘right-sizing AFMA’ - ensuring good alignment across the agency in terms of goals, staffing and other resources required to operate efficiently and effectively, and to meet industry expectations.

CEO of the CFA, Chris Melham, attended the workshop to provide input based on his dealings with AFMA over the past twelve months and other government agencies.

Mr Melham labelled the AFMA operation as very professional and forward thinking, but strongly advised AFMA to develop a promotion/awareness campaign aimed at commercial fishers and the community to demonstrate the benefits it is delivering to its clients.
