Print This Page Orkney Salmon Industry Worth £6.6 Million
SCOTLAND - The latest industry figures show that salmon farming was worth £6.6 million to Orkney last year.
A report in the Aberden Press and Journal says that the Scottish Salmon Producers' Organisation (SSPO) showed that £1 million was paid directly by salmon farms in the islands in pay and the industry generated around £4.5 million into the local economy.
Orkney salmon farmers spent a further £2.1 million-plus on local supplies and services last year, according to the SSPO.
SSPO chief executive Scott Landsburgh also highlighted capital investment worth more than £3.1 million in Orkney over the past three years as the industry prepared to meet growing global demand for Scottish farmed salmon, the Press and Journal says.
