Print This Page No New Licences for Norwegian Salmon in 2010
NORWAY - The Norwegian Directorate of Fisheries recommends no new salmon licenses in 2010.
According to a report from FishFarmingXpert, further increase in salmon production needs to be in accordance to the strategy of sustainable aquaculture. The directorate responsible doesn't think this strategy is defined well enough, and have asked for more time to develop the goals in an overall sustainability strategy, says the organisation.
As long as there are fish health problems, interaction between wild stocks and farmed salmon, escaping, questionable use of feed resources, and increasing conflicts in use of the shore line, the Direcorate recommends the political authorities to halt the increase in salmon production, says FishFarmingXpert.
