BRUNEI DARUSSALEM - The new Research and Development (R&D) facility of the Fisheries Department, which is currently undergoing construction in Sg Paku, Telisai, will allow the government to test and recommend the latest technologies used in shrimp aquaculture for private sector investors.

At press conference on Saturday, Fisheries Director Hjh Hasnah Ibrahim told reporters that the facility will allow the government to conduct research and development works to help out the private sector as they may not have the capacity or facilities to do so on their own, reports Ubaidillah Masli, BruDirect, com.

Presently, another R&D facility was set up in Muara, but this facility primarily focuses on the production of shrimp fry, whereas the one being constructed in Telisai will delve into areas such as effective systems to rid aquaculture farms of shrimp waste products as well as exploring self -feeding and self-cleaning mechanisms.

According to BruDirect.com, Hjh Hasnah said that the department would then recommend approved technologies to be used by the investors or operators of shrimp farms.

The director also added that the private sector can suggest new technologies for the department to test out at the facility, if it had the capability to do so. However, she said that this would only be carried out if the department feels that the technology had potential.
