Wastewater Kills Fish in Thi Tinh River
Tests conducted by the department show the wastewater in the company’s storage reservoir did not confirm to national standards and had a very high degree of pollution, a report said Tuesday. Vo Thi Ngoc Hanh, deputy director of the department, said it would ask the company to repair a breach in its reservoir within 15 days.
After compiling statistics and estimates of damage caused, the department would fine the company and force it to compensate organizations and individuals that have suffered losses, she added.
As Thanh Nien Daily had reported earlier, the company’s wastewater reservoir in Ben Cat District’s Lai Hung Commune broke last Saturday, discharging huge volumes of wastewater into the Thi Tinh River and causing the death of a large number of fish.
