Koi Herpesvirus Disease Outbreaks Confirmed

According to a recent report, Cefas has issued Confirmed Designations prohibiting the movement of fish into, out of and within the affected sites.  The designated fisheries are:

1. CD 31/ 2009 Badshot Lea Complex, Lower Weybourne Lane, Badshot Lea, Farnham
   
2. CD 32/ 2009 Toneham Farm Carp Fishery, Peterborough, Cambridgeshire
   
3. CD 33/ 2009 Willinghurst Fisheries, Willinghurst Estate, Cranleigh, Surrey. This designation also includes nearby Lapscombe Lake and Alder and Ash Tree Lakes

Under the requirements of the designations all fisheries have been directed to establish and maintain on-site facilities for the disinfection of angling equipment at all access points for each of the designated sites and anglers must comply with their use.

Samples were taken from each of the affected sites following reported deaths of fish and tested positive for Koi Herpesvirus disease.

Koi Herpesvirus disease affects all varieties of carp (Cyprinus carpio), including common carp, mirror carp, ghost carp and koi carp and can result in high rates of fish mortalities.
