CANADA - Liberal MP Gerry Byrne says no-one should be surprised by a decline in this year's shrimp fishery.
According to news from VOCM, the Association of Seafood Producers released numbers yesterday and cold water shrimp landings are about half of what they were this time last year. The industry was shut down for the early part of this summer.
Meanwhile, Byrne is also calling on Ottawa to live up to their promise to help lobster fishermen affected by low prices this year. He says 15 million dollars was announced to be shared among over ten thousand lobster fishermen.
However, Byrne says the money hasn't helped anyone yet, reports VOCM. Byrne says the lobster season ended more than two months ago and it's time for action form the Department of Fisheries and Oceans.
