Long An River Oil Spill Threatens Shrimp Farmers

The communes are in the province’s Can Giuoc District, reports VNS.

About 9,000 litres of fuel oil spilled into the river last week when a pipe broke as the fuel was being pumped from a barge into tanks used by the Tan Van Phuoc Co Ltd in Phu Thanh hamlet at the Long Phung Commune.

The accident happened late last Sunday, but relevant authorities hadn’t taken any effective steps to deal with the situation as of Thursday.

The oil slick covers a 3km stretch of the river.
