Aquaculture Freezes in Spanish Legal Vacuum
According to an FIS news report, the Councillor of Marine Affairs, Rosa Quintana, is likely to meet with representatives of aquaculture companies in the first week of September, to update them on the initiatives being evaluated to overcome the crisis gripping the sector, and its consequential economic losses and unemployment.
One possible measure is that the Xunta de Galicia invalidate the present decree that governs the industry, to draft a new text in which the two latest aquaculture plans are combined: that of 2006 and 2008, says FIS.
The past week a ruling of the High Court of Justice of Galicia (TSXG) was put forth, one that annuls the bipartite agreement of 2006 and effectively modifies the Galician Aquaculture Plan of 2005, the result of the nonpresentation of an environmental impact declaration. In his ruling, the judge explained that the absence of this declaration “could be decisive for the nullity of full rights” of the Aquaculture Plan.
