Fish Week: Big Promotion for Brazilian Consumption

BRAZIL - It is already becoming tradition. For the sixth consecutive year, Abras (Brazilian Association of Supermarkets) and the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture will hold, from September 1 to 15, “The Fish Week”.

The event - which actually lasts for 15 days in spite of its name - aims to spread the benefits of fish consumption for Brazilian consumers, through a huge promotional campaign.

"It's always important to emphasize to the Brazilian population all health benefits that fish consumption provides. Besides healthy, fish originates countless recipes," explains the president of Abras, Sussumu Honda.

According to FoodBizDaily, supermarkets have been willingly participating in the Fish Week. By July, more than 300 supermarkets had already joined the event.

The ones that have participated last year certainly did not regret it, since there was an average increase above 30 per cent in sales of fish and other categories of complementary products during the promotion period, reports FoodBizDaily.

The goal is to convince companies to slightly reduce the profit margins in order to obtain stronger partnerships and long term ones.
