Manipur Fish Farmers Call for Drought Relief
According to KanglaOnline, he said this at a meeting of the fish farmers of the state, during which at least 54 fish farmers took part at the Mass Hotel, Assembly Road, Imphal.
Addressing the media the president of the association said although the GOI had declared some parts of the country including the north eastern states, as drought affected, no drought affected programme has been initiated by the concerned authorities in the state.
According to him in this connection a memorandum have been submitted to the Prime Minister of India, Union Agriculture Minister, Sarad Pawar and also to director fishery GK. Pillai this month and also informed that on September 11 and 12 the association would meet the Union Agriculture Minister in Mumbai to discuss the matter.
A resolution during the meeting pledged to demand availability of water pumps to the fishermen at subsidies rate and bank loan, free distribution of fingerlings at subsidies rate or free, distributions of chemical to purify waters, waived loan interest for fishermen who had taken loans and also waived off taxes of fish rearing ponds among others.
