Concern for Wide Bay Fish Habitats
Queensland's Minister for Primary Industries and Fisheries, Tim Mulherin, reports that in the past two years there have been eight prosecutions for mangrove destruction or illegal pontoons and boat ramps in declared fish habitat areas, according to a report on ABC.
He says the main areas of concern are the Susan River, Burrum River and Isis River.
Mr Mulherin said that the destriuction of the habitats will not be tolerated, according to ABC.
"If you go out there and knock them over illegally, we will catch you, we will prosecute you, we won't cop it any longer," he told the network.
HOwever, ABC adds that other interested parties such as Fraser Coast Sunfish are more concerned baout the potential damage to water quality from urban run-offs.
