AquaGen Sees Growth in Chile

CHILE - Norwegian fish breeding company AquaGen is to invest $12 million in a salmon eggs production plant in Ayacara in the 10th Region in Chile.

The company said that despite the current crisis in the industry in the country, now was the time to invest.

Over the next 10 years the company expects to see new facilities built in Chile and also the possible enlargement of the current plant, according to a report in Fish Farming Xpert.

When the current salmon crisis in Chile started in 2007 AquaGen sold 280 million eggs, and was number one among the breeding suppliers with a 28 per cent market share.

Today, because of the reduced salmon seedtimes the company expects a production of between 60 and 100 million eggs this year.
