Skagit River Sees Strong Salmon Returns

According to a report on King 5, other Washington rivers are seeing strong pink salmon returns, but the much larger Chinook are the main story.

Puget Sound Chinook have been classified as a threatened species because of sharp decline in numbers.

There is now an estimated 25,000 Chinook Salmon in the Skagit and it is estimated that there are also more than 1 million pink salmon, according to Seattle City Light, which is claiming some of the credit for managing the river flows.

Although the tribes, the Washington Deptparment of Fish and Wildlife and other agencies and grants have also allowed for the purchase of stream-bordering land for habitat restoration.
