The three fish in the area that are in danger are the Sacramento River winter-run Chinook salmon, the threatened Central Valley spring-run Chinook salmon, and the threatened Central Valley steelhead.
According to a report in the Chico Enterprise Record the aim is to put a recovery plan in place and to get teh populations up to a stange where they can be taken off of the endangered species (ESA) list.
The recovery plan is being headed by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
The key threats to the fish are loss of spawning habitat, dams on the Sacramento and San Joaquin rivers and other tributaries, water diversions, reduced water flows and predatorsthe report says.
Climate change is another major factor.
