New Research Lab for Marine Scotland
A new state-of-the-art marine laboratory is to be built in Aberdeen to replace Marine Scotland's existing fish health facilities in Torry, reports The Scotsman.
The contract for the £11 million scheme has been awarded to Barr Construction, one of Scotland's leading construction companies.
The new Fish Veterinary and Aquaria building will be used by marine scientists to conduct research to aid Scotland's aquaculture industry and to safeguard the health of wild fish and shellfish stocks.
Richard Lochhead, Scotland's Environment Secretary, said: "Accelerated capital spending is enabling important projects to be taken forward earlier than planned, providing vital support for the construction industry in a challenging economic climate.
"This new research centre will provide a welcome boost to the construction industry and local economy in Aberdeen."
The FVA is set for completion in September 201, according to The Scotsman.
