Fishing Boost for Rivers State Economy

NIGERIA - Nigeria's Rivers Government is hoping to see a revenue of N480 million from aquaculture and fishing thanks to a parttnership with maritime expert Briggs-Kuro Tamuno.

According to a report on All Africa, the state government ahs acquired five fishing trawlers, which ahve been leased to a local fishing company, Vijons Nigeria Limited.

The trawlers will be used not only to fish but also train fishermen.

Mr Tamuno, who is Special Adviser to Gov. Chibuike Amaechi on Aquaculture and Deep-Sea Fishing, the state had already engagaed people to be trained, boosting job opportunities in Rivers State.

The All Africa report says that the local state govbernment hopes to earn N40 million a month from the venture and if successful it might buy more trawlers.
