Aquaculture Zone Application

Politics

MALTA - The Malta Environment and Planning Authority (MEPA) can confirm that the details of planning application PA04434/09 for the proposed development of an acquaculture zone in the national territorial waters in South East of Malta had been published in a local newspaper on the 19th December 2009, according to the law.

The description read ‘National Territory PA04434/09 Proposed Aquaculture zone South East of Malta. Dr Andrea Fenech Farrugia, Site at South East of Malta 6km away, National Territory Malta.’ A copy of the press advert is being sent as evidence.

The Authority also denies that it was in anyway trying to fast-track this application, so much so, that in view of the Christmas shut-down, the Authority extended the statutory representations period, whereby residents and other interested parties can submit comments and objections to the Authority, by a further 12 days, to close on the 15th January 2010.

The Authority gives notice that in the public interest it will republish this application, thus restarting the planning process. MEPA will ensure that all local councils will be informed of this re-publication and instruct the applicant to carry out sufficient publicity for all interested parties to be able to view the plans and make their representations.
