Large Scale Harvesting

NORWAY - The Norwegian Institute for Nature Research (NINA) advises large scale harvesting of salmon to avoid a "lice crisis".

According to FishfarmingXpert, NINA director Janne Sollie says that the salmon industry has a special responsibility for the future of the wild salmon.

Norway hosts one third of the reminding stocks of wild salmon in the North Atlantic.

The catches of wild salmon has over the last years been reduced by 75 per cnet.

In Norway the salmon industry keeps over 350 million farmed salmon with more than 500 million lice.

This is far above a sustainable level estimated to 10-50 million lice, reports NINA. According to them a large scale harvesting in some regions can be a way to reduce the lice pressure.
