Aquaculture Performance Praised
According to a report on Next, the President of the Association, Foluke Areola, said in Lagos that the sector contributed toward enhanced management, strategic and compliance as well as best practices in the industry.
“Fish farmers are more aware of the need to remain in business, as they diversified in the method of preservation of their hatcheries,” Mrs. Areola told Next.
“Nigeria gained recognition for its forefront rule in aquaculture by the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD),” she said.
The report says that Mrs Areola explained that market opportunities were opened for farmers to export their catfish fingerlings, while there was also remarkable networking among them.
She added that the society would continue its programmes with the World Bank to train more people to appreciate the importance of aquaculture to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
