DuPont Animal Health Solutions Virkon® Aquatic essential in viral disease season
UK - Salmon and trout farms are particularly at risk from viral diseases such as Infectious Salmon Anaemia (ISA) and Infectious Pancreatic Necrosis (IPN). Seasonally these diseases prove to be extremely persistent and difficult to destroy.
Faced with this situation, the correct use and selection of disinfectants is very important to ensure that pathogen challenge is minimized and the fish’s natural defence against infection is maximised. This in turn will dramatically reduce incidences of disease, reduce mortality and save money.
Virkon® Aquatic from DuPont Animal Health Solutions (DAHS) is the ultimate disinfectant independently proven to be highly effective against a wide range of veterinary pathogens including the important aquaculture viruses ISA and IPN. For optimal protection against infection, it should be used in all marine hygiene situations including footbaths, dive suits, well-boats, workboat cleaning and especially on-site harvesting.
Professor Ronald J Roberts FRSE, Emeritus Professor of the University of Stirling, who has been working on DAHS Virkon® Aquatic fish pathogen virucidal properties for the past three years, states that he has no doubt that, properly used, DAHS Virkon® Aquatic is the most versatile and essential biosecurity aid available to the industry.
