Spain and Seychelles Sign Aquaculture Agreement

SEYCHELLES - The Prime Minister of Spain, Jos Luis Rodrguez Zapatero and the President of the Republic of Seychelles, James A. Michel have signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in fisheries and aquaculture.

This memorandum was signed by the Minister for Environment and Rural and Marine Affairs , Elena Espinosa, and the Minister of Environment, Natural Resources and Transportation SeychellesJoel Morgan.

The aim of the memorandum is to increase cooperation in fisheries and aquaculture , in particular the implementation of projects and activities that contribute to combating poverty and food security, promoting fish consumption.

In addition , the memorandum is to ensure the sustainability of fishery resources and intensify actions that benefit the sustainable development of the use of the sea and its ports between the two countries.

In the area of training, the Seychelles will be included in the Programme of Cooperation for Training in Marine Fisheries and Aquaculture.

The agreement will also promote joint participation in research , development and promotion of production , trade , biotechnology, aquaculture land and environmental sustainability and responsible fishing.

In the field of marine knowledge , campaigns will be conducted through research oceanographic ships of the General Secretariat of the Sea to assess fish stocks in the Seychelles.

Finally, teh agreement will boost trade and private investment and will encourage the participation of industrial enterprises in the fisheries and aquaculture in fairs, exhibitions and other events in both countries.
