Seafood Traceability: Aquaculture America 2011

Sustainability +1 more

US - The demand for seafood traceability from the point of origin to the consumers dinner plate is becoming a fact of life in the marketplace. Which is why a special session on seafood traceability will be held at the Aquaculture America conference in New Orleans, Louisiana, February 28 - March 3, 2011.

What is your company doing to address this important issue?

  • If you are a retailer, do you know where your fish and seafood is coming from, how it is farmed, where it is farmed, and how it got from the pen, pond, or tank to your display case?
  • If you are a farmer, do you know where your products are going and how they are being handled?
  • What if something goes wrong and a recall is ordered, would you be prepared to deal with it in a matter of minutes, or hours, or days?
  • Can you afford a traceability programme? Can you afford not to have one?

This special session will look at presentations from all perspectives in the whole value chain, from producers and processors to food manufacturers, logistics suppliers, wholesalers and retailers, as well as suppliers of inputs to the various members of the value chain, such as pharmaceuticals, ingredients, and packaging.

The purpose of this special session is to provide a discussion forum for all things “traceable” in the aquaculture value chain so that you can get up to speed on this important topic.

America Aquaculture 2011 is currently soliciting speakers for the development of an agenda to submit to the conference organisers.

Topics of interest may come from any of the above mentioned or related. The deadline for submitting a list of presenters and presentation titles is right now, so time is of the essence. Presenters’ abstracts will be due shortly thereafter (Sept. 30, 2010).

If you are planning to make a presentation, a prompt response is vital. Please provide your name, affiliation, and a tentative title for your presentation.
