Back in March, the US banned imports of Mexican shrimp because the country has failed to adequately protect sea turtles.
The US said that the Mexican fleet did not properly use Turtle Excluder Devices.
Since then, the Mexican government has made a commitment to environmental preservation with a roadmap for corrective actions, primarily aimed at ensuring the full protection of the turtle marina.
Both the US and Mexican government have worked closely together to come to solve this problem.
After carrying out a number of checks on vessels, the US government has decided that corrective measures implemented by the Mexican government were successful.
The Mexican government has reaffirmed its willingness to continue to work closely with the local industry to prevent any other issues arising.
