Safe Radioactivity Levels In Fisheries Products

Food safety & handling +1 more

JAPAN - In relation to the accident occurred at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant of the Tokyo Electric Power Company, the Chiba Prefectural Government has implemented the monitoring inspection on radioactivity level, in order to ensure safety of fisheries products in Chiba Prefecture.

The result of the inspection is that radioactivity was not detectable (below the provisional regulation value) in the Japanese sardine sample at the Choshi fishing port.

The radioactivity level of the raw milk, pork, sea cucumber, mackerel (southern mackerel) and anchovy samples show that all the measurements were below the Provisional Regulation Value, and that consumption of these fisheries and livestock products will not affect human health.

The result of the inspection is that radioactivity was not detectable in the chub mackerel, spear squid and olive flounder samples, and was 3.0Bq/kg for the anchovy sample, at the Choshi fishing port. The radioactivity was below the provisional regulation value for all the 4 species.
