Health Clams +3 more

VIET NAM - The first known outbreak of perkinsus sp. has been reported in the Thang Loi cooperative, Hiep Thanh commune, Bac Lieu, by Dr Nam Hoang Van, Director General, Department of Animal Health, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

The disease has killed 270 farmed hard clam oysters in the area.

Results of three analyzed samples that were collected from Thang Loi cooperative were positive with Perkinsus sp., but the cause of the mortality could not be confirmed because of the method used to detect the pathogen (Lugol staining) and the laboratory could not determine its species.

Samples have been sent to the OIE Lab for further testing.
