Technology & equipment Post-harvest +1 more

US and CHINA - Eastern Fisheries Inc., the worlds largest scallop company, has finalised agreements to operate a scallop farm off the coast of Zhuanghe, China.

Eastern Fisheries will begin by cultivating bay scallops, with plans to expand their operations for the production of larger sea scallops. Easterns wholly owned subsidiary in China, Dalian Far Eastern Shores, will oversee the day-to-day management.

We have been doing business in China for awhile now and feel this is the right time for us to enter into aquaculture. This venture is in line with Easterns commitment to quality, sustainability and accountability which, through our vertical integration, our customers have come to expect, stated Executive Vice President Joe Furtado.

The farmed scallops will complement Easterns wild caught products and over time will allow Eastern to decrease their third party purchases of farmed Asian scallops.
