Oyster Opening Contest In Its 19th Year

UK - Oyster knives at the ready, its that time of year again when Tabasco searches for the British Oyster Opener of the year.

On Thursday 1 September at Bentley’s Oyster Bar and Grill, London, the UK’s supreme ‘shuckers’ will be battling it out for the British title.

Now in its 19th year, the Tabasco® British Oyster Opening Championship celebrates the start of the native oyster season and identifies the UK’s finest and fastest oyster opener.

Professional oyster ‘shuckers’ will battle it out with encouragement from some the UK’s leading experts from the hospitality industry including; chefs, restaurateurs, food writers, seafood experts and a few well known faces.

Competitors are required to open and display 30 native oysters as quickly as possible and present them on a silver tray (as they would be served at any prestigious restaurant).

The winner – The Tabasco British Oyster Opener 2011 – will win £250 and will also represent the UK in the World Oyster Opening Championship in Galway, Ireland.

The Tabasco British Oyster Opening Championship 2011 will take place on Thursday the first of September at Bentley’s Restaurant,11-15 Swallow Street, London, W1B 4DG at 3.30pm.
