OIE: Crayfish Plague Reported In Italy

ITALY - An outbreak of Crayfish plague (Aphanomyces astaci) has been reported to the OIE by Dr Romano Marabelli, Chief Veterinary Officer, Department for Veterinary Public Health, Nutrition and Food Safety, Ministry of Health, Rome, Italy.

There has been one outbreak of Crayfish plague reported to the OIE.

The outbreaked occured at Mogliano Veneto, Treviso, VENETO

The outbreak is effecting a defined zone within the country.

So far, the outbreak has resulted in four cases and there have been no deaths so far.

The source of the outbreak is continuing/unknown.

Control measures currently being applied include:

  • No vaccination
  • No treatment of affected animals
