The company Cupqueln, which owned this farm, was notified about the situation on 25 October, 2011. Last Tuesday, all the fish on the farm were culled, meeting with the time given by the new ISAs Specific Health Programme for Control and Prevention, which was made official last August.
The culling was carried out under strict supervision of Sernapesca, along with the top biosecurity conditions required by this health organisation, even if the fish were not found to have clinical evidence or mortality linked to ISA virus.
What is important is an early detection along with a quick culling in order to prevent fish being infected or spreading the virus," said the national director of Sernapesca, Juan Luis Ansoleaga.
Salmon were offloaded at the biosecure Oxxean Port, in Aysn area. Afterwards, they were moved to a reduction plant. Previously, the ships which entered into the farm and moved the fish were monitored by Sernapesca and Army officials in Valparaso.
According to Sernapescas sources the process was carriend out quickly, securely and efficiently. These were attributed to the coordinated work made by its players: the company involved, Oxxean port, the reduction plant in the area, Chilean Army, regional officials and Sernapesca.
