Be Inspired At NZ Aquaculture Conference

NEW ZEALAND - The New Zealand Aquaculture Conference kicked off today in Nelson.

The 4th annual New Zealand Aquaculture Conference will discuss the issues and opportunities facing the sector as it moves towards its next phase.

With new aquaculture legislation passed earlier this year, the theme of the conference is "be inspired".

"Our coordinated, sector-wide effort and cooperation with Government has delivered an enabling regulatory framework that removes the roadblocks of the past and provides certainty for the aquaculture sector in the future," said Chair Peter Vitasovich.

"But with these new laws less than six weeks old, it’s still too early for our sector to realise the full extent of the change they’ll create.

"There is a sense of relief about – but there’s also plenty of work to be done. Law reform is just one component of our strategy for planned and sustained growth.

"We need continued focus on productivity, innovation and value-added marketing to drive us toward our billion-dollar goal and that has been a key driver behind the conference."

With a range of speakers from across New Zealand and around the world, the conference hopes to provide the ideas, insight and research to help industry players make the most of opportunities on the horizon.

The experts will explore the key themes that underpin the sector’s sustainable growth – value enhancement, innovation, law, sustainability, health, market development, Maori business, investment, the global economy, and of course superb food.
