Marine Harvest Works To Recapture Escapees

Salmonids Sustainability +2 more

NORWAY - Marine Harvest is working to reclaim escaped salmon, after a storm last week caused damage to nets at a site in Nordfjord.

It isn't currently clear how many fish have escaped, however the net held 139,000 fish of around 4kg in weight.

So far local fishermen claim to have caught 150 fish, and nets put up by Marine Harvest have caught 30 fish.

Despite having a clear goal, of zero per cent escapees, incidents like this do occur. In 2011, Marine Harvest registered three major escape events, before this one.

This is a clear improvement on previous years.

Marine Harvest has said the fish are safe to eat. It is also offering rewards of 300 kroner per fish caught and returned.
