Minister In Brussels For New Fisheries Agreement

05 January 2012

SPAIN - The Minister of Agriculture, Food and Environment, Miguel Arias Cañete, will meet on Tuesday 10 January with the Commissioner of Fisheries of the European Union to ask for a new fishing agreement with Morocco and the adoption of measures to compensate the fleet affected, after the European Parliament's decision not to extend the agreement with Morocco.

This was announced by the Minister Arias Cañete in a press conference in Madrid after meeting with the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries of the Junta de Andalucía, Clara Aguilera.

Mr Arias Cañete said: "Is a priority for the Government of Spain to resume talks with Morocco to create a new agreement, which has a great economic and social impact, as it affects 64 Spanish ships and 500 direct jobs."
