Mr Whitehead's re-appointment will lend continuity to Seafish, which is presently in the process of developing a new structure and business plan as a result of the Government led 'Discussion with Industry' process held during autumn 2011.

Paul Williams, Chief Executive of Seafish, commented: "I am delighted that John will be with us throughout 2012. His support and experience will be invaluable to Seafish as we embed the new structure and work programme which we expect to be able to reveal to industry in coming weeks."

John Whitehead says: "I am very pleased to be able to carry on as Seafish Chair. This will be a key year for the organisation as it responds to the 'Discussion with Industry' process and sets out some new ways of working. We are beginning the process of appointing a new Board and establishing new structures within the organisation, our clear objective is to set Seafish on a path that will ensure it can be even more effective in meeting the long term needs of a sustainable and profitable UK seafood industry."
