Nutrition Sustainability Economics +4 more

Due to depleted fish stocks, fishmeal production is expected to continue its downward trend. Imports are about 20,000 tons annually, according to the latest USDA Malaysia Oilseeds and Products report.

Imports from traditional sources such as Peru and Chile have altogether disappeared as they are also experiencing over-fishing.

Malaysia is trying to source from other non-traditional suppliers such as India and Italy. Exports amounted to 18,000 tons in 2011, mainly to China, Taiwan and Bangladesh.
