The FSA proposes a new salmon regulation in order to meet the continuing challenges that aquaculture faces over lice and its evolution of resistance to several available delicing agents.

The last few years have been marked by frequent changes in regulations in the area. There is therefore a need for an overall review of the regulations and for a more robust regulatory framework that better takes into account current and future challenges in the area and secures sustainable production.

To further strengthen efforts to combat lice, it is proposed to insert a requirement that all new well boats must have equipment for the interception and destruction of sea lice and salmon louse eggs, as well as equipment for general disinfection of the transportation water.

The requirement is proposed apply to all boats from 2019. Regardless of this, it is proposed also to introduce a screening of the treatment of water from the well boats used for debugging with hydrogen peroxide.
