According to Shellfish Bulletin No 9 issued on 3 April, 2012, the waters along Bolinao, Anda, Alaminos City, and Waw in Bani, all of Pangasinan are now free for red tide toxin, BFAR Officer-in-Charge Atty. Benjamin F.S. Tabios Jr reported.
As a precautionary measure, the BFAR advised the concerned local government units to require market inspectors, quarantine officers, administrators to demand for auxiliary invoice or clearance for Domestic Fish Movement for any fish and seashells that are unloaded from other provinces and municipalities to ensure that seashells brought in the markets did not come from Paralytic Shellfish Poisoning (PSP) positive areas.
Meanwhile, latest BFAR shellfish bulletin included shellfishes collected at Dumanquillas Bay in Zamboanga del Sur; Murcielagos Bay in Zamboabga del Norte and Misamis Occidental; Masinloc Bay in Zambales; and Bataan coastal waters (Mariveles, Limay, Orion, Pila, Balanga, Orani, Abucay and Samai) to be positive for paralytic shellfish poisoning which is still beyond the regulatory limit and are not safe for human consumption.
Pangasinan's Coast Now Free of Red Tide Toxin
PHILIPPINES - Shellfish gathered from the coastal waters of Pangasinan are now free from red tide toxin and safe for human consumption, according to the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR).
