GLOBAL - The business to business certification body Global GAP has developed a new logo with an integrated QR Code to help give consumers more information about the aquaculture methods used to produce fish and seafood products.

The new logo with the quick response code was revealed during the European Seafood Exposition in Brussels this week and is designed to meet consumer demands for more knowledge about how the products they are eating are produced.

Global GAP says that with more than 2 million tonnes of certified seafood from aquaculture farms, the program offers more products from certified farms than all other aquaculture labels combined.

The certification body says that the amount of seafood that is certified ahs doubled in them last two years and now covers salmonids (including rainbow trout), shrimp, tilapia and pangasius, barramundi, pike-perch, sea bass and sea bream are all included, with molluscs to come.

The QR code leads consumers to the GLOBALG.A.P. website www.my-fish.info, where there is information on responsible aquaculture practices including criteria for legal compliance, food safety, animal and workers' welfare, and environmental and ecological care.
