"Efforts against illegal fishing have given encouraging results," said Minister of Fisheries and Coastal Affairs Lisbeth Berg-Hansen.

The Joint Norwegian-Russian Fisheries Commission who conducted the survey of illegal over-fishing, involved the assembly of the vessel level and estimates of the total catch of cod and haddock in the Barents Sea and Norwegian Sea in 2011.

"Our joint work with Russia has been an important factor for the positive population trend that we see for cod and haddock, and there is confirmation that it is possible with targeted measures to combat illegal fishing," said Ms Berg-Hansen.
