Young’s Seafood Limited Footprint Consolidation

25 May 2012

UK - Young’s Seafood Limited has announced the consolidation of its manufacturing footprint following a period of consultation.

Fish and seafood processing volume from the former Cumbrian Seafoods sites in Seaham and Whitehaven (now known as Ocean Pure Limited), along with shellfish processing volume from Cromer, will be will be transferred into Young’s Seafood Limited’s factories in Grimsby.

Unfortunately the phased transfer of fish and seafood volume is likely to result in the closure of the sites at Seaham and Whitehaven, and the Cromer Crab Company, with the loss of the remaining jobs at these facilities. The expansion of production at Young’s Seafood Limited’s Humberstone Road and Mardsen Road factories in Grimsby will result in the sites taking on circa 321 staff in addition to the 776 people who currently work there. Any employees facing redundancy, who wish to apply for these roles, will be prioritised when filling the vacancies.

Leendert den Hollander, Chief Executive of Young’s Seafood Limited, said: “This announcement on our footprint consolidation is about achieving the most robust and sustainable manufacturing operating model for the long-term. We have made some tough choices about our manufacturing operations, as we have adjusted to the new reality in the macroeconomic environment and to achieve our long-term objectives. Whilst we recognise that the general economic environment remains challenging, we’re confident that we’re taking the necessary steps to put us on the right track for the future.”
