Fish Processors Welcome Market Vote22 June 2012
EU - EU Fish processors and traders have applauded the EP Fisheries Committee vote this week on Commission proposals for reforming the Common Organisation of the Markets in fishery and aquaculture products.
The processors organisation, AIPCE-CEP, said it acknowledges the Committee’s constructive approach under its rapporteur Struan Stevenson and the way it has engaged with the numerous representations made to it.
The Committee has sent a clear signal that they want the new regulation to have greater coherence with existing legislation and not increase cost and complexity for industry or consumers.
The Committee’s amendments represent a good and balanced outcome which lay sound foundations for future negotiations on this proposal.
"AIPCE-CEP welcomes this positive direction set by the European Parliament at this key stage of the discussions. We look forward to a final outcome which enables processors to continue to deliver sustainable supplies of quality fish to consumers at prices they can afford, enabling them to reap the huge health benefits from eating more seafood," the European processors' organisation said.
