Youngs Seafood Limited Appoints Marine Biologist

UK - Youngs Seafood Limited has appointed a marine biologist in a senior role to further deepen the companys expertise in fish.

David Parker, formerly a Fisheries Officer at the Marine Conservation Society and a Marine Policy Officer at the World Wide Fund for Nature, has joined Youngs Seafood Limited as part of the Corporate Social Responsibility team lead by Mike Mitchell.

With a degree in Marine Biology and an MSc in Environmental Biology, David has also worked on board a fishing boat and carried out research for a fishery management body.

Davids work at Youngs Seafood Limited will involve researching sustainable emerging sources of fish and seafood for new products, working with fishermen and fish farmers on their improvement initiatives and providing support and advice to customers who want to further grow the sustainable fish category. He will also play a crucial role in implementing Youngs award winning Fish for Life programme on responsible fish procurement.

David Parker, Youngs Seafood Limiteds Marine Biologist, said: This as a great opportunity to make a difference and take supplying sustainable fish to the next level. I cant wait to get out on the water and work with fishermen, fish farmers and customers on new sources of fish, new products and new sustainability projects. Im excited about working to save the environment and joining a team that are so committed and passionate about doing the right thing.

Commenting on the appointment, Mike Mitchell, Technical and CSR Director at Youngs Seafood Limited, said: Im delighted to welcome David to Youngs, having had the pleasure of working alongside him on sustainability initiatives for a number of years. He brings a wealth of expertise, energy and insight and together well work on some exciting projects as part of our Fish for Life programme.

The move follows Youngs Seafood Limiteds recent decision to use MSC certified Alaska Pollock instead of threadfin bream for surimi for sustainability reasons.
