SCOTLAND, UK - Fifteen Scottish seafood companies will meet the fresh fish buying team from Morrisons today, to hear about the company’s future strategy for fresh seafood, and to see how industry can work with the retailer to improve distribution of Scottish fish and shellfish.
The event is being held at the Buchan Braes Hotel in Peterhead, where suppliers will be given an overview of the UK seafood market and an update on current technical and environmental considerations. They will also receive a presentation from Morrisons’ Head of Seafood Frank Green and his team.
A visit to Peterhead Fish Market is planned for Friday morning, followed by a tour of the Lunar pelagic and whitefish processing factories and one of their pelagic fishing vessels.
Seafood Scotland Business Development Consultant Jim Gourley, who organised the event, said: “We are pleased that Morrisons is looking at both increasing the volume of fresh seafood it sources from Scotland, and at widening the range of Scottish species it stocks. This represents a genuine business opportunity for suppliers and I look forward to seeing developments over the coming months.”
Frank Green, said: “We have a strong track record at Morrisons of working closely with British suppliers and offering our customers some of the best quality food available in the UK. The opportunity to come and meet these companies in Scotland offers us a chance to extend this commitment even further.”
