AUSTRALIA - Prawn fishermen say they're going to try and set up aquaculture next to big mining areas to provide them with fresh seafood.

The Australian Prawn Farmers Association says it sees a big gap in supplying fresh, healthy food to hungry miners, reports ABCRural.

President Alastair Dick says he's hopeful miners and fishers can develop a much closer relationship.

"Many big mining companies in the north-west of Australia, where there is an abundance of seawater," he said.

"The mining companies have the clout, they have the infrastructure, and they have access to the sites.

"So we think that not only will their mining employees have access to fresh seafood, but they'll also be able to develop those industries."
