National Fishery Production Record at 1.6 Million Tonnes

MEXICO - Sustainable fishery policies implemented by the Federal Government has contributed to a national fishery production record in 2011 of 1,660,475 tonnes in live weight.

This is 40,000 tonnes more than in the previous year, with a production value exceeding 17 billion pesos, the National Commission of Aquaculture and Fisheries (CONAPESCA) said.

Eightyfour per cent of the Mexican production was provided by the maritime fleet, while the remaining percentage was generated by aquaculture.

In the National Fish Production report, the federal agency points out that Pacific coasts accounted for 83.11 per cent of production, the Gulf and Mexican Caribbean 14.4 per cent and inland waters 2.49 per cent.
