Fish Production Falls in Pakistan

PAKISTAN - Despite one of the leading exporters of fish and its products, the country's inland fish production has dismayed compared to marine production during recently ended financial year 2011-12.

According to an official, the inland production target was set 269,000 tons in fiscal year 2011-12 but only 260,000 tons production has been achieved whereas marine achieved 485,000 tons production against its set target of 687,000 tons, reports PakTribune.

The fisheries sector grew at 1.8pc in last fiscal year 2011-12 which depicts 24.2pc less than the target of 956,000 tones as its production remained at 725,000 tons.
