Government Achieves Targets in Fisheries Industry

SRI LANKA - The government is achieving targets set for the fisheries industry while uplifting the livelihood of the fisheries community. The credit of these achievements should go to Fisheries Minister Dr Rajitha Senaratne, Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa said.

Infrastructure facilities in fisheries harbours have been completed and construction in harbours and anchorages have been completed under the guidance of Minister Senaratne, he said, DailyNews reports.

A number of new industries including the ornamental fish industry, aquaculture industry, sea cucumber industry and inland water fish industry have also been introduced among fisheries communities to develop their livelihood, he added.

The minister was addressing the opening ceremony of Sri Lanka's largest canned fish factory TESS Agro PLC in Peliyagoda, recently.
