Mexico's Fish Oli Exports Growing

MEXICO - Exports of fishmeal have quadrupled, going from 85,000 tonnes sold in 2011, to about 341,000 tons by 20 August, 2012.

The National Service of Health, Food Safety and Quality (SENASICA) reported that for producers, volumes were 558,000 tonnes worth of Aquaculture Health Certificates.

Among the achievements of the present administration is the boost of fishmeal and fish oil exports, as it opened major markets like China, which today is one of the main buyers.

In addition, this merchandise was introduced in other destinations such as Argentina, Cuba, Peru, Ecuador and Venezuela, which allowed export volumes to be achieved.

The decentralised agency of the SAGARPA explained that until last 20 August, fishmeal was exported to 19 countries in Europe, Asia and America.

China purchased fishmeal volumes of 236,000 tonness, USA 25,477, Taiwan 18,521, Turkey 15,316 and Indonesia 14,639.

Between January and August 2012, Mexican producers of fish oil have exported 331,735 tonnes to 12 countries, among which the European Community bought 292,481 tonnes, USA 11,085, Canada 10,677 and Chile 8,916 tonnes.

The destinations that Mexico exports fishmeal/oil to are: Argentina, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Korea, Cuba, Denmark, Ecuador, USA, Spain, Ghana, Guatemala, Holland, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Israel, Italy, Japan, Lithuania, Malaysia, Peru, Philippines, Republic of China, Taiwan, Turkey, Venezuela and Viet Nam.
